I did the dessert story for the November issue of Bon Appetit. I don’t always snap pics of the dishes I make, but I did this time for some reason -- I've also included some of the professional shots taken by Hans Gissenger. Maybe so that I could show you that the desserts were actually quite appealing! Let me know what you think and check out the recipes in the issue or on Epicurious.
Okay, remember that I’m not a professional photographer, but I would rather eat the pie on the left. The one on the right looks like it was made with Trader-Joe’s pie crust. This is a great dessert--so fun to eat a seasonal berry pie at holiday time.
The tender, crumbly Apple Pie with Oat Streusel didn't get immortalized in the issue or on the web, neither did crispy-phyllo-crusted, spiced fruit-filled Apple-Cherry Tartlets. At least the totally fab Pumpkin Pie with Pepita Nut & Ginger Topping made it into a tiny corner of a table-scape. Alas, I took no photo to show it in a better light. I am really fond of the topping. I used a similar topping on the Brown Butter Pumpkin Layer Cake I did for the pumpkin story I wrote for the Fall 2010 issue of Fine Cooking. Wish I had a slice of that cake now!
